There has been a change to the Middle School Track Schedule. The Valentine Track Meet for middle school originally scheduled for Friday May 9, to coincide with the high school meet has been changed to Tuesday, April 29. There will not be a middle school meet on May 9, as that meet will now only be for high school. Again, the Valentine Middle School Track Meet will be on Tuesday, April 29, and not on May 9 as originally on the calendar. The high school meet will remain on May 9. Thank you.

A reminder that Humanities Nebraska speaker Nancy Gillis will present a program "A Brief History of the Five Tribes of Nebraska", this evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Gordon-Rushville High School. This presentation is made possible by Humanities Nebraska, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and Gordon-Rushville High School as part of the HN Speakers Bureau. Covering the history of the five tribes that settled in Nebraska, Gillis's presentation will detail history and sociocultural aspects of the Omaha, Ponca, Pawnee, Santee and Winnebago, with an additional focus on the history of the tribes which called the Sandhills home. "A Brief History of the Five Tribes of Nebraska" is one of approximately 300 programs offered through the Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau. The more than 165 available speakers include acclaimed scholars, writers, musicians, storytellers and folklorists on topics ranging from pioneer heritage to ethics and law to international and multicultural issues, making it the largest humanities speakers bureau in the nation. Speakers are available to any non-profit organization in Nebraska. This hour-long program will include a question-and-answer period. The most frequent users of the HN Speakers Bureau are primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, libraries, museums and historical societies, agencies for the elderly, rural organizations, churches, arts organizations and ethnic organizations. Humanities Nebraska sponsors the largest Speakers Bureau program. The program will be open to the public.

Unfortunately, we were unable to secure enough participants to hold the Cultural Fair this Spring, so we will just be hosting the presentation by Nancy Gillis. In previous years, the high school hosted local families and organizations willing to share elements of their culture including food, art, music, dance, literature, etc. for an evening where students and the community could learn from various cultural presentations. If anyone is interested in participating in a future Cultural Fair please contact Brooke Simmons at the Gordon-Rushville High School and we will reach out to you about participating in the Cultural Fair next year. Local historians, artists, and organizations are also welcome to participate.
